North Herts Crusaders took on St Ives Roosters in an early season battle of the unbeaten teams at St Ives new home at St Ives Rugby Club.
Crusaders started the first half very strongly, in what coach Joe Holding called a near perfect half of rugby, racking up 24 unanswered points with Matt Houlden and Josh Parkhouse causing the Roosters defence all kinds of trouble.
The second half was a different story, with St Ives coming back into the game and showing why they have been unbeaten so far this season. Some sloppy defending and some ill discipline from Crusaders didn’t help matters, with Oscar Robinson and Kyle Hughes both spending 10 minutes off the field through yellow cards. Crusaders pulled away at the end to put the game out of reach before St Ives had the final say with a try of their own making the full time score 36-22 in North Herts Crusaders favour.
Tries came courtesy of speedy winger Matt Houlden grabbing a hat trick, Josh Parkhouse, Liam Fitts, Tom Hamer and Aaron Williams all adding a try each. Ben Doughty complimented the score with four conversions
